SANDRU Lawyers is strengthening its team as the number of complex white-collar crime cases increases

SANDRU Lawyers continues to grow and announces the expansion of its team with the appointment of lawyers Bianca Medințu and Mădălina Ioana Șinca, as part of the firm’s efforts to strengthen its white-collar crime practice and handle an increasing number of complex cases.
In recent years, SANDRU Avocați has been consistently involved in some of the most complex and sophisticated cases in the field of business criminal law, with the firm’s name featuring in a number of high-profile cases, including those with a significant international dimension.
Recently, the team has seen a significant increase in cases relating to corruption in the private sector, tax evasion and tax fraud, as well as in cases investigated by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO). At the same time, the firm has significantly expanded its work in the areas of corporate criminal liability, compliance, whistleblowing and internal investigations, becoming increasingly involved in situations where internal investigations, criminal risk assessment and legal strategy must be coordinated from the very outset.
This development also reflects a broader shift in the nature of the mandates handled by the firm. Beyond defence in criminal proceedings proper, the lawyers at SANDRU Avocați are increasingly involved in crisis situations or in mandates where intervention takes place prior to or in parallel with a potential investigation by the authorities, requiring the rapid identification of risks, an understanding of the client’s business, and the development of a strategy that takes into account not only the legal implications but also the operational and reputational ones.
The expansion of the team therefore aims not only to develop the firm’s capacity to manage these mandates, but also to maintain a working model based on the direct involvement of lawyers, transparent communication and genuine availability to the client.
Bianca Medințu has been a member of the Bucharest Bar since 2022 and joins SANDRU Avocați with several years’ experience in handling high-profile white-collar crime cases. Her work covers all stages of criminal proceedings, from the initial analysis of the case and the development of a defence strategy to assisting and representing clients before the criminal investigation authorities and the courts.
Bianca stands out for her meticulous attention to detail and the dedication she brings to every case. Her approach combines rigorous legal analysis with a careful understanding of the factual and procedural specifics of each case, contributing closely to the preparation and implementation of defence strategies.
Mădălina Ioana Șinca complements the team with a strong analytical profile and a solid background in criminal law. Even during her studies, she stood out for her interest in criminal law and her participation in international moot court competitions, including the International Nuremberg Moot Court Competition – experiences which have developed her skills in legal argumentation, critical thinking and advocacy.
At SANDRU Avocați, Mădălina is already involved in criminal law and white-collar crime cases, contributing to case analysis, legal research, the assessment of evidence and the preparation of defence strategies. Her approach is characterised by intellectual curiosity, precision and the ability to analyse a legal issue from different perspectives, paying attention both to the details and to the broader context of the case.
For SANDRU Avocați, however, expanding the team is not an end in itself. The firm pursues careful growth, in which the selection of staff is carried out according to the same principles applied when choosing cases, and professional compatibility is complemented by a shared set of values regarding the relationship between lawyer and client.
“I am delighted that Bianca and Mădălina have joined our team. For us, this is an important step, but the development of SANDRU Avocați has never been about becoming a very large team. We carefully select both the cases we take on and the people with whom we build the firm. It is essential for us to share the same values and the same understanding of how the legal profession should be practised.
Transparency, dedication, direct communication and being there for the client are essential to us. In a criminal case or a crisis situation, the client must know not only that they have highly qualified lawyers by their side, but also that they can truly rely on their team when they need to. I believe this approach has helped us build very close and long-lasting relationships with our clients.
Recently, we have seen a significant increase in cases relating to corruption in the private sector, tax evasion and tax fraud, in cases handled by the EPPO, as well as in the area of internal investigations. These mandates require not only a very good knowledge of criminal law, but also the ability to quickly understand the client’s business, the people involved and the risks surrounding a situation, and to make decisions in a context where, very often, time is of the essence.
We do not wish to take on just any mandate, nor do we wish to grow simply for the sake of growth. We prefer to get involved in situations where we believe we can bring real value and where we can maintain the level of commitment we undertake towards each client. “It is very important to me that the people who join us understand this. Bianca and Mădălina share this culture and, beyond their professional expertise, I greatly appreciate the dedication, commitment and responsibility with which they approach every case,” said Adrian Șandru, Managing Partner at SANDRU Avocați.
